CLIENT: Liverpool Roman Catholic Archdiocesan Trustees Incorporated
LOCATION: Liverpool
PROJECT COST: £2.4m
DESCRIPTION: The initial aspirations were to complete Gibberd's vision for a ceremonial set of ascension steps up to the main entrance of the Cathedral. This has been integrated with a new public realm space and a visitor centre, an essential component given the number of visitors to this iconic and world renowned Cathedral.
The project also integrated a wider strategy for the Cathedral Precinct and the surrounding areas to form a consolidated masterplan.
The Piazza provides a Public Realm Space for discourse and activities, whilst the Visitor Centre provides policing and servicing the Public Space to accommodate the needs of visitors and community groups.
All materials chosen have been selected with great care to provide continuity of design language with the existing building.
