CLIENT: Liverpool Hope University
LOCATION: Liverpool
PROJECT COST: £40m
DESCRIPTION: The refurbishment of a Grade II listed 'St Francis Xavier School' for Liverpool Hope's Fine Art and Design department in association with 'Hope in the Community' education programme.
The St Francis Xavier School was a derelict and dilapidated building suffering from extensive water ingress and rot.
The prime works involved structural adaptations to create a large central performance area with extensive sound treatment to prevent sound migration from other University activities. The roof structure was repaired and the roof finishes replaced.
The scheme had to balance the various University department requirements and included extensive mechanical and electrical installations with specialist data, sound and audio-visual systems being incorporated, as well as a full catering facility.
The scheme balanced the sensitivities of a Grade II listed building with the technological requirement of a University and actually received a Merseyside for Architecture Award.
