CLIENT: The University of Liverpool
LOCATION: Liverpool
PROJECT COST: £26m
FLOOR AREA: 14,000 sq m
DESCRIPTION: The Liverpool Biosciences Research Centre is located within the University of Liverpool. The Centre is a new four-storey landmark building and also incorporates the Mersey Bio Incubation Unit. The building adjoins the Life Sciences Teaching and Administration Facility. This building originally being a nine-storey building which has been reduced to four-storeys and completely refurbished.
The new scheme is part of a larger complex forming the new Biosciences Campus at the north-east corner of the University precinct. The state of the art academic research facility provides a building in which some of the country’s leading genetics research is taking place.
The tight programme was achieved by utilising steel frame construction, a minimum of wet trades, and a high level of off-site prefabrication of mechanical components.
The procurement adopted partnering techniques to secure cost control and delivery of the project on time.
