PROJECT COST: £45m
DESCRIPTION: The River Dee Estuary Bridge was the final stage in providing a dual carriageway bypass to the urban areas of Shotton and Connah’s Quay on Deeside and provide alternative access into North Wales from England.
The river crossing comprises 3.7km of dual two lane road which crosses the Chester-Holyhead railway and the navigable channel of the River Dee.
Included in this road is the main feature of the cable-stayed bridge with a single A-frame tower. The tower is over 115 metres high and forms a striking new local landmark, and the deck span is approximately 200metres clear across the river and is over 18m high to allow shipping to pass underneath.
